Kurosaki Ichigo - The true main character of the story, he is our brash, orange-haired, Shinigami hero. He first meets Yoruichi the day he is meant to leave for Soul Society to save Rukia, and freaks out once he realizes she can talk. He first finds out she’s human (and a woman) a little after his battle with Kenpachi. Yoruichi sees Ichigo as a rather powerful person, but she also loves to mess with his head and get him all flustered. Nevertheless, she is willing to save his life no matter what, and help him train to become stronger and save Rukia. The reason why she is so willing is rather unknown. Ichigo seems to like Yoruichi as well as any other person, but hates being bested by her. Nevertheless, he would just as dutifully save her life like she had his, given the chance. Whether there is a secret ‘love’ interest for the other is yet to be seen.

Sado Yasutora - Best known as ‘Chad’, he is a silent character, very reserved and not very emotional. He’s Ichigo’s best friend and when he first runs into Yoruichi he does not seem too surprised that she is a talking cat, at least outwardly but one can never tell. He comes with Ichigo and her because Rukia saved his life once, but inwardly he is probably just going to keep a promise he made to Ichigo. Yoruichi takes him to train and control his powers two weeks before Ichigo plans to leave. She seems to be secretly proud of him because he is able to summon his power so easily, and uses it quite well even if he makes a scene as he does so. It’s unsure of how exactly Chad thinks of Yoruichi, but if it’s anyone’s guess, he probably thinks of her as wise and as a great teacher.

Inoue Orihime - Her head is in the clouds often and, although she is bright, common sense might be lost to her at most times. Orihime joins the group just to prove to everyone that she is useful. Orihime is the most ecstatic over Yoruichi and is quite amazed by her as well. Yoruichi trains her as well. Orihime likes her a lot, as she does with practically anyone. Yoruichi in turn, doesn’t seem too bothered by the bubbly girl; in fact she’s most friendly with her, allowing the other woman to actually treat her like a cat (like petting and holding her) . Although the training was unseen between these two, it is obvious that Orihime is happy that Yoruichi has taught her so much and sees her as a good friend.

Ishida Uryuu - Hater of Shinigamis and… buttons…, loves to sew and to kill Hollows, Uryuu is a rather odd character. His ‘species’, so to speak, is that of a Quincy, although he’s still human…. I think? He tags along with Ichigo and the others just to settle the score with the Shinigami. It is Orihime and Chad who introduces him to Yoruichi and, like Ichigo, flips out over a speaking cat. Out of all the characters, he and Yoruichi seem to have the least interaction in the storyline. It’s pretty unsure of how these two think of one another because of their limited interaction, but Uryuu does respect her since he does use the honorific ‘san’ and that he doesn’t want her to die. Yoruichi seems to be suspicious of Uryuu just because of his heritage; nevertheless, she does seem to accept him as an ally not foe and is still willing to teach him certain facts but only when he’s with the others. These two have a huge rift between them and have never held much of a conversation, but it is safe to say that they are loyal team mates to one another.

Kuchiki Rukia - The Shingami who lost all her powers and gave them to Ichigo, she lives on Earth for a few months in a faux body until she is recaptured by her own brother and best friend. Rukia, if anything, knows Yoruichi by her famous name in Soul Society, but their interaction is little to none. Yet, Yoruichi goes to Soul Society to help save her and to guide Ichigo and his group through it all.

Urahara Kisuke - Owner of the Urahara shop, Kisuke is a bit of a mysterious, sly character, popping up wherever he pleases without warning. He is also a former Shingami and Yoruichi’s best friend. Their first meeting is never viewed, but Yoruichi is a common visitor at the shop. The two are loyal to one another, easily being supportive to one another in times of need and are both runaways from Soul Society. Kisuke definitely likes Yoruichi, possibly even in a love type of way and vice versa for Yoruichi. The two keep many secrets only they seem to know and commonly leave Ichigo and the others in the dark. They trust one another whole-heartedly, even once trained together in their own secret place, sharing training ideas and morale. It is not hard to see these two, as clandestine as they both are, as secret lovers as well, though there is no hard evidence to go off on such a prospect. As it is, they definitely are good friends and allies that fight beat together. It might even be because of Kisuke that Yoruichi traveled to Soul Society, to attempt to help him correct a mistake.

Kuchiki Byakuya - A member of the royal Kuchiki family, he is a well respected Shingami captain who stands up for the rules above all else, even his own family. He is also a very quick mover, thanks to a little power called Senka or Shyunpo, and the one to teach him this move was a fellow noblewoman named Yoruichi! According to the manga, she was his past teacher though Byakuya does not respect her too much because of her absence. Yoruichi, in turn, looks down upon the other, treating Byakuya like a child. She is capable to hold her own in a fight against him, and probably knows his fighting style rather well. These two don’t seem to have a very loving student-teacher relationship, and Byakuya is rather determined to make her see the ‘error’ of her ways.

Kon - The modified soul who lives as a stuffed animal most times and in Ichigo’s body the rest of the time, Kon was lucky enough to be allowed life, something he does not treat too carelessly. Too is being used lightly here. Kon often has to be calm and silent, like a stuffed animal, but whenever he grows restless he goes out on the town to find something of interest, mainly a girl. It is on one of these reckless treks that he happens upon Yoruichi. It is, in fact, the first encounter the audience and readers, which labels this event as semi-important. It is because she ran into Kon that draws attention to her, and its not hard to see that she will become an important character later on. Though Yoruichi says not a word, Kon believes her to be just a cat and starts boasting on how he is ‘the king’ of all cats. Yoruichi merely walks away, no doubt that she already knows who Kon is and why he is a talking stuffed animal if Kisuke’s and her’s relationship is any indication. After this, they do not have any more meetings but Yoruichi probably thinks Kon is rather foolish and, of course, isn’t frightened of him.

Soi Fong - Commonly referred to as ‘Soifon’ or ‘2nd division captain’ she is just another Shinigami and, like Byakuya, follows the rules. She was never very rich and her family was devoted to protecting a certain noble family, and no other then Yoruichi herself. She was the only one of her brothers to live for more than three missions and she lived for years to serve under Yoruichi, protecting her with her life. Soifon is an excellent organizer and a quick thinker and learner, which is mainly why she lived for such a long time. It also helped that Yoruichi became more than her master, but also her friend. From day one Yoruichi wanted Soifon to refer to her in less honorific terms and Soifon, of course, obeyed. Though, their relationship ended up going much deeper. They played games and shared food but when Yoruichi left it also left Soifon with a broken heart. Their relationship turned hectic and unstable. Soifon felt betrayed from the event and after that she felt no regards whatsoever in attempting to take down her friend when they next met and Yoruichi did not either. However, Soifon still held love for her master and friend. It is probable she harbors feelings of romantic love for Yoruichi, after all one of her deepest feelings of betrayal was because Yoruichi had not taken her with her when she mysteriously disappeared. After awhile, they set aside this tragic event to help save their world from destruction.

Shiba Kuukaku - A famous fireworks expert and someone who isn’t afraid to express her self, she is a very strong person even if she has only one arm and always takes charge of any situation. It’s typical for her to beat on anyone who gets on her nerves. Although no one states how it happens, Yoruichi and Kuukaku are associates and Kuukaku has no problems with helping her out no matter what the plan is. Yoruichi seems to trust Kuukaku and the Shiba girl proves to be very reliable.

Aizen Sousuke (spoilers)- You’re typical yet not so typical bad guy, Sousuke and Yoruichi have almost no nteraction. However, because of his devious acts, it draws Soifon and Yoruichi back into an alliance with one another, and next thing you know the two are working together again, and immobilizing Sousuke, their differences set aside. It is because of this that he is a rather important character, at least when it’s related to Yoruichi.
